He launched the effort that achieved NEH support the first of four NEH-USCB Teachers Institutes, the effort for the planning grant that led to NEH awarding the University of SC College of Education Free and Equal grant 2018 and formed “Reconstruction Beaufort: The Second Founding of America” to support the development and sustainability of the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park leverage to the Reconstruction story into teacher training for the introduction of Reconstruction as a part of American History to be taught in schools.
