Day 320 - Loud or Leader?
Yesterday I was engaged in a conversation that was difficult to listen to and exciting to help reframe.
How do you manage an employee who thinks they know everything?
This was the context:
A frustrated VP, People & Culture.
We chatted about the complaints.
We reviewed the employee’s role and responsibilities.
We spoke about what conversations had taken place to date.
It’s easy to become frustrated.
I often heard ‘there’s always one.’
Introvert vs. Extrovert was also brought up more than once.
Loudest person in a meeting.
Strategy:
1. Reframe the situation
2. Set quantifiable boundaries
3. Provide consistent check-ins
4. Discuss their progress frequently
5. Excuses are not answers
How often do you sit in the observer’s chair to ‘see’ the other person’s point of view?
⭕️This employee has so much to offer.
⭕️They are excited.
⭕️They are communicative.
Let’s not label the extrovert or the most gregarious person on your team.
Excitement is infectious.
It’s a leaders invitation to foster, mentor and model the way.
Who is your outgoing team member?
How can you foster them to lead with heart? 💜
